Semmco LPS, the leading manufacturer of short duration, escape breathing apparatus has announced the opening of its new manufacturing facility in Woking, Surrey. The latest investment in both buildings and equipment marks a significant leap forward in production capacity and operational efficiency to meet increased demand from global customers.
At the heart of the new facility are two dedicated production pods: one for the HEAD (escape breathing apparatus) range and one for the EEBD (Emergency Escape Breathing Device) units. Each pod is equipped with temperature and humidity controls, creating bespoke environments tailored to the requirements of each product. The new production pods have been designed to enable an efficient single line product assembly flow. This minimises downtime and provides an enhanced working environment, ensuring that finished products continue to meet the strict standards on safety, reliability and quality required by the product standards and that Semmco LPS is renowned for.
The increased footprint and layout of the new factory provide increased capacity to complete large-scale contracts and to quickly respond to peaks in demand. Semmco LPS is currently fulfilling a major order for a US-based client for its EEBD while managing an increase in requirements from the prison sector for its HEAD product.
Among the most exciting developments at the new location is the creation of a new dedicated refurbishment area for the HEAD product, complete with industrial washing machine. This critical process, that forms part of the UK’s HMP Prison contract, cleans and refurbishes used HEAD sets so that they can be returned to HMP and re-used.
